“It’s Not Such a Bad Little Tree…”

Something absolutely miraculous happened this Christmas season in Toledo, Ohio. The Glass City does not ordinarily have a non-planned, extemporaneous tree decorating party. And yet, somehow that is what emerged this holiday season when urban neglect met the holiday spirit. Toledo––as if acting on orders from the holidays––adopted a gigantic weed that was growing out of the sidewalk as a civic holiday tree. And it was magical, if low key and kind of random.

I know Christmas is well behind us, and we are currently dealing with enough snow to bury even the hardiest of weeds. But it’s important to stop and appreciate the bizarrely miraculous when it happens.
